Green Energy Doors Open 2014
Blue Sky Bioenergy Tour

On October 4, 2014, the Biomass Innovation Centre (BIC) took part in OSEA's second annual Green Energy Doors Open event - a province-wide showcase of individual, community and commercial sustainable energy projects. As a participating event host in the North Bay region, the BIC hosted a Blue Sky Bioenergy Tour of various bioenergy installations in the area.

As one of over 100 event hosts in the province, the BIC's Blue Sky Bioenergy Tour included:

1) South Shore Education Centre – biomass boiler which uses wood pellets to cover the buildings’ normal heating requirements. The tour was provided by Andreas Wintzer with Viessmann Manufacturing Company Inc.

2) Merrick Landfill Power Plant – biogas project which extracts methane gas from the landfill and converts it into electricity. The tour was provided by Todd Wilcox and Trevor Laronde with North Bay Hydro, and Michelle Cross with the City of North Bay.

Overall, the day was a great success! Thank you to each of the tour guides, facility hosts, and our lively participants for taking part in this event!
